Psalm 34: 5 “They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.”
Definition: Looking means leaning.
Looking unto Jesus means relying on him. That is, Fixing our eyes on Him with confidence.
As our Helper, Jesus is the one from whom we draw power. Luke 10:19 “19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
WHY DO WE NEED TO LOOK UNTO HIM?
1. To bring light to the darkness that surrounds us. 2. To turn our shame and reproach into testimony.
1. To bring Light
Psalm 36:9 “9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.”
John 8:12 - Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 1:5 - And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Psalm 18:28 “28 For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.”
2. In order Not to be put to shame
Isaiah 50:7 - For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
Psalm 34:4 “4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”
Luke 18:35, 35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: Vs. 38 “38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.” Vs. 41 “41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. 42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.” His shame was blindness.
Psalm 123:1-2 “123 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. 2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.” Prayer: Psalm25: 2 “2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.”
Prayer: Psalm25: 2 “2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.”
